Abd ar-Rahman Swar ad-Dahab ( Arabic عبد الرحمن سوار الذهب, DMG ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān Suwār aḏ-Ḏahab , also Abdel Rahman Swar al-Dahab ) (* 1934 in Omdurman , al-Chartum , Sudan ; † October 18, 2018 in Riyadh , Saudi Arabia ) was from April 6, 1985 to President of Sudan on May 6, 1986 .

Abd ar-Rahman Swar ad-Dahab was born in the city of Omdurman in 1934 and graduated from the Sudanese Military Academy . He became known as the former president of Sudan, Gaafar Nimeiry , made him his chief of staff and he then defense minister in 1984 and top command leader of the army was. After a military coup, he came to power on April 6, 1985 and became President of Sudan. As promised, he resigned in 1986 to pave the way for free elections. On May 6, 1986, Ahmad al-Mirghani took office as the new President of Sudan and Sadiq al-Mahdi became Prime Minister. Abdel Rahman Swar al-Dahab became chairman of the Islamic Call Organization in 1987 , and was still chairman afterwards. He died on October 18, 2018 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In 2004 he received the King Faisal Prize for services to Islam. He was one of the signatories to the Amman Embassy .
