Abdul Jabbar Aldahhak

Abdul Jabbar Aldahhak ( Arabic عبد الجبار الضحاك, DMG ʿAbd al-Ǧabbār aḍ-Ḍaḥḥāk ; * April 1, 1940 in Salamiyya , Hama Governorate ) is a former Syrian minister and diplomat . Today he is Professor of Botany in the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Damascus University .

Aldahhak graduated from Damascus University in 1961 with a degree in biology and then pursued a scientific career. On November 5, 1967, the Syrian government sent him with a graduate scholarship to Grenoble , France , where he did a doctorate at the Center for Nuclear Studies at Grenoble University . After his research stay, he returned to Syria in August 1972 and assumed several high government offices. He was Minister for Oil and Natural Resources (1980–1984), Dean of the Faculty of Science (1989–1990) and Syrian Ambassador to Algeria (1990–1999).

Currently (as of 2020) Aldahhak teaches as a professor at Damascus University. In 2016 he was elected as a corresponding member of the Academy for the Arabic Language in Damascus .
