biography

The biographical information on al-Kaduli is incomplete and fraught with uncertainty. He was born in Mosul in northern Iraq and later worked there as a physics teacher. In 1998 he probably traveled to Afghanistan , where he received paramilitary training from al-Qaeda and became Osama bin Laden's agent . In 2004 he joined al-Qaeda in Iraq under Abū Musʿab az-Zarqāwī . He was later arrested by the Iraqi authorities, but was released in 2012 and joined ISIS. As of May 2014, the United States Treasury Department listed al-Kaduli as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist . After Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi , the self-proclaimed “caliph” of IS, was allegedly seriously injured in an air strike in March 2015 so that he could no longer exercise his office, according to press reports, al-Kaduli moved into the hierarchy of IS the second position and acted as finance minister of the IS. In May 2015, the United States Department of State placed a bounty of up to US $ 7 million on him.
