Abdurrahman Nureddin Pascha (* 1833 in Kütahya ; † July 28, 1912 in Istanbul ) was an Ottoman statesman and Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire .

Life

Abdurrahman Nureddin's ancestors were germyanides from the Kütahya region. Abdurrahman Nureddin was born in the provincial capital in 1833 as the son of Kütahyalı Hacı Ali Paşa. The father was a high official and among other things Wālī of Jeddah and Damascus . Abdurrahman Nureddin received his training from private tutors and then served his father as Kethüda (adjutant) and Kâtib (scribe). In 1863 he became Kaymakam from Şumnu , in 1865 Mutasarrıf from Varna and in 1867 from Niş, where he stayed for five and a half years. In 1872 he was raised to the rank of vizier and Wālī in Prizren in Kosovo . He was then briefly provincial governor in Vilayet Tuna and in Ankara . On July 18, 1875 he was appointed governor of Baghdad and commander in chief of the 6th Army. In April 1877 Abdurrahman Nureddin briefly became governor of Diyarbekir . In mid-February 1879 he was again governor of Baghdad, but was deposed again in early November 1880.

On May 2, 1882, Sultan Abdülhamid II appointed him Grand Vizier against his will, but Abdurrahman Nureddin resigned after only two months because he had too little experience with the administration of the Sublime Porte , but also for religious reasons. because he was close to Sufism around the Khalidiyya arm of the Naqshbandīya .

Probably at the instigation of his successor, Mehmed Said Pascha , Abdurrahman Nureddin Pasha was sent again as governor to Diyarbekir, which he perceived as an act of disgrace, whereupon he was transferred to Kastamonu after a complaint . Then he was Wālī of Aydın and Edirne. From 1895 to 1908 he served as Minister of Justice. In 1901, the Sultan again appointed Abdurrahman Nureddin as Grand Vizier, but he resisted the appointment by making the unfulfillable demand that the palace should stay out of the administration of the Sublime Porte.

After the constitution of 1876 was reinstated as part of the second Ottoman constitutional period , Abdurrahman Nureddin Pasha went into retirement. He died in Istanbul on August 7, 1912.
