Abel Egede (police officer)

Abel Mølgaard Egede (born May 4, 1945 in Nuuk , † February 15, 2006 ) was a Greenland police officer and local politician .

Abel Egede was the son of the carpenter Jørgen Egede and his wife Martha Mølgaard. On August 5, 1967, he married the Danish nurse Lil-Ann Frandsen (* 1945).

Abel Egede made his real exam in 1964 and started working for the police that same year. He was trained at the Police School in Copenhagen and worked in Tårnby from 1966 to 1968 . He was then an administrative member of the Greenland Police Association, where he was made chairman in 1970, which he remained with a training break from 1973 to 1974 until 1976. That year he began to work as a teacher at the police school himself. In 1981 he became police superintendent and 1986 inspector . In Greenland's police history, he played a major role in building up the police force. In 2002 he moved to Denmark, where he was responsible for Scandinavian police cooperation at Rigspolitiet .

From 1977 to 1981 he was a member of the Nuuk Municipality Council , the last two years of which as Vice Mayor. He was also a member of the board of directors of Grønlandsbanken .

On March 21, 2000, he was awarded the Nersornaat in silver for his services . He also wore the Dannebrogden , the police badge and the Rotary Foundation medal.
