The Abele Spur is a 1559 m high rock spur located on the western flank of Mount Lechner towards the Herring-Nunatakker in the Forrestal Range of the Pensacola Mountains in Queen Elizabeth Land in West Antarctica .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him at the suggestion of the US geologist Arthur B. Ford after Gunars Abele (1934-1989), a Latvian civil engineer of the United States Antarctic Research Program , for the geodetic investigation of the area through the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) of the United States Army Corps of Engineers .
