The Abyssinian is a breed of small horses bred in Ethiopia .

Exterior
The ponies are around 138 cm tall. The Abyssinian is of the eastern type and is small and narrow.

Breeding history
The hippologist Count Wrangel described the Abyssinian pony he named, also called Ethiopian, by which he may have meant another variant of the oriental-Berber breed mix. According to Wrangel, the Abyssinian is an oriental pony, very similar to the Arab , but the image in his work The Races of the Horse moves the animal in the direction of the Berber .
The horses are bred in Ethiopia and are adapted to the hard life and use in the local mountains. Meanwhile the horses are also common on the coast along the Red Sea . They are mainly used as riding and pack animals .
