Carl Gustav Otto Christian Count Wrangel von Sausis (born April 4, 1839 in Hamburg , † October 4, 1908 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish hippologist . Wrangel was considered the hippological authority of his time in Sweden and made a name for himself internationally as a writer. As an author, he is also known as C. G. Wrangel.

Life

Carl Gustav Wrangel was the son of the Swedish Minister-Resident in Hamburg , Count Anton Reinhold von Wrangel and Sara Maria, née Dedel. From 1855 to 1857 he attended the War Academy in Karlberg . In 1859 he became a sub-lieutenant in the Austrian Line Infantry Regiment No. 34 Prince Regent of Prussia and took part in the battle of Solferino against the French with distinction . In 1863 he finished his military service and went back to Sweden. On June 30, 1868 he became a valet of the King of Sweden, in 1873 a knight of the Greek Order of Redeemer and in 1876 a knight of the Wasa Order .

Back in Sweden he began his writing career. He was editor of the newspaper Tidning för hästvänner (newspaper for horse lovers) for 10 years . He then wrote from 1879 to 1881 for the magazine Sporren (Sporen) and from 1879 to 1883 he was editor of Smålands allehanda (Smålands Allerlei). He himself lived in Småland, in Jönköping . In 1888 he turned back to hippological topics and became editor of the Stuttgart-based magazine Hippologische Revue . He also wrote for two years for Der Sporn and Die Sportwelt in Berlin. From 1892 to 1895 he managed various private studs in Hungary, and from 1894 to 1896 he was in charge of the Hoppegarten horse racing track . From 1897 to 1901 he was head of the foreign department of Svenska Dagbladet . In 1897 he was appointed representative of the umbrella organization for stud farms.

In 1863 he married Freiin Julie Amalie Wilhelmine Christine von Ripp (* 1835), with her he had two sons and a daughter. From 1891 he was married to Tekla Sköldberg for the second time.
