Abbreviations NOT considered

The worldwide valid airport codes are not listed here. These ICAO codes have four letters. The first two letters are the country code of the airport . There is also a full list of IATA airport codes and a list of airports sorted by IATA code (three letters). Larger airports can be found in the list of commercial airports with ICAO and IATA codes .

The codes of the VOR stations and NDB stations (3 letters each) and the intersection codes (5 letters or digits) are not listed here either. ( List of VORs in Germany , list of NDBs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland )

There is also an international 3-letter code for the various airline names that is not listed here, but in the list of IATA airline codes . The abbreviations for the different aircraft types can be found in the list of aircraft type codes .

The abbreviations for the country codes in the license plates of the aircraft can be found in the article Aircraft license plates .

Sort criteria

... (to the top of the list)

Special characters, dashes, spaces and digits were not taken into account in the alphabetical classification.

Example: 100LL is sorted like LL; A / A is sorted like AA; ACR OPNS is sorted like ACROPNS;

Many abbreviations are written either with or without a slash. Example: GS or G / S - Ground Speed - speed over the ground.

The case of the abbreviations is practically insensitive. Most of the time everything is abbreviated with large letters. NOTAMs are often written in lower case throughout. A mixed case is common for some abbreviations - e. B. MAPt - Missed Approach Point - missed approach point, but MAPT is also used for this. Units of measure are written in both upper and lower case. Example: LBS or pounds for pounds; km / h or KMH. Abbreviations from the German language, on the other hand, are written with strictly defined upper and lower case. Example: NfL messages for air drivers; mwSK - misleading heading; LuftPersV - Ordinance on aviation personnel.

Most of the abbreviations listed are only written in abbreviated form, but pronounced as a whole word. Example: A / C written, Aircraft spoken. Only a few abbreviations are spoken as a separate word. Example: NOTAM. Some abbreviations are also read as single letters (pronounced English). Example: written BEFORE; “Vi ou ar” spoken; ILS written, “ai el es” spoken.

Subscript letters (e.g. V R ; C L ) are not sorted according to a fixed rule - V R is e.g. B. sorted at V, while C L is sorted at CL. Often one also finds the spellings: VR, Vr, CL, Cl.
