MPL Multi-crew pilot license new airline pilot license since November 2006. While the training with an ATPL takes place gradually (private pilot license - PPL; commercial pilot license with instrument rating - CPL IR; airline transport pilot license - ATPL, Multi Crew Coordination - MCC), with the MPL Training only takes a single exam at the end. During the training, the division of labor between pilot flying and pilot monitoring begins very early on. Compared to conventional training, there are considerably more simulator hours instead of real flight hours. The aim of the MPL is to prepare airline pilots within 18 months. This means that the MPL training is shorter than the ATPL training, with the same work area for the pilots. The MPL is the direct training path to become an airline pilot. The previous training path of an airline pilot with ATPL takes place especially in the initial phase with aircraft, equipment and procedures, with which he then as an airline pilot has nothing to do. The flight characteristics of the aircraft, on which the conventional training of airline pilots with ATPL takes place, has little to do with the later aircraft in scheduled service. For the license, 240 hours of total flight experience are required, which are completed in the simulator and on real flights. Since the ICAO does not stipulate the number of real flight hours - actual flight time - in practice there is an increase in the significantly cheaper simulator hours at the expense of the real flight hours. However, simulator lessons have a higher learning effect in many situations (TEM, CRM, in-flight emergencies, TCAS warnings and reactions, GPWS warnings, smoke and fire on board, passenger evacuation), as the situation can be stopped and errors or problems are discussed immediately and can be corrected. However, the actual flying time must at least correspond to the hourly requirements for a private pilot license plus instrument training and night flight authorization - that is about 60 to 120 real flight hours and 12 landings. The MPL students are much more likely to be trained in Crew Resource Management - CRM - and Threat and Error Management - TEM. The flight time in single-engine aircraft, especially flights that are not supervised by instructors (solo flight lessons in small aircraft), is reduced to a minimum. The MPL training is intended for student pilots without prior flying experience and pilot licenses. The MPL is intended to replace the ATPL, as it has been developed over the past 50 years, in order to meet the increasing pilot needs of airlines in a cost-effective and needs-based manner. The MPL training includes training in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), which are airline-specific, which is why the trainer must master the SOPs of the airline in question. An MPL license is mutually recognized by all ICAO states. The MPL is tailored to the two-man cockpit of modern commercial aircraft. As before, it is sufficient if the second pilot only has one CPL, only one pilot in the two-man cockpit needs an MPL or ATPL. MPL pilots are only allowed to fly in a one-man cockpit with restrictions (minimum flight experience - actual flight time).
