Final whistle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In sport, the final whistle is the interruption or termination of the current game by the referee , who usually uses a whistle for this.

Soccer

A distinction is made between the following final whistle variants in football :

  • End of the game: after 90 minutes the regular game ends. The game may be extended (30 minutes), and this phase is also ended by a final whistle (also known as the final whistle). Then the game is over; there may be a penalty shoot-out for the final decision .
  • Half-time: After 45 minutes the game is interrupted ( half-time ), after a 15-minute break the sides are switched. There is a short break after 15 minutes in extra time, which is mainly used to switch sides.
  • Penalty: After a rule violation, the referee blows the whistle and imposes the penalty ( free kick or penalty , and possibly an additional yellow or red card ).
  • Ball out of bounds: If the ball goes over the touchline or goal line, there is a throw-in (touchdown) or a corner kick / goal kick (goal out).
  • Goal: After a goal, the kick-off starts again at the kick - off point .

Handball

A special variant of handball is the temporary final whistle during a time-out and the execution of seven meters (after a rule violation ) and free throws after the regular playing time has ended.
