Abraham von Humbert

Abraham Humbert , von Humbert from 1746 , (* 1689 in Berlin ; † January 12, 1761 ibid) was a German mathematician , geographer , engineer and Prussian major of Huguenot descent.

His father was a businessman in Berlin.

After his military training in Flanders , Abraham Humbert entered the Saxon service as an ensign in 1711. There he fought with the Dragoons Regiment "Weißenfels" in Pomerania, Poland and Lithuania. From 1719 he was in Prussian service, initially as a lieutenant in the engineering corps. He later worked with the rank of captain in the fortress Memel and from 1731 in the fortress Stettin . From 1737 he was a major engineer in the fortress Küstrin . In 1740 he was brought to Berlin by King Friedrich II as a teacher for the princes and appointed to the Secret Council of the French Directory. In 1746 he was raised to the Prussian nobility.

Abraham von Humbert was also active as a writer and was appointed a member of the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences on January 23, 1744 .
