Abrogation is a German melodic death metal band from Magdeburg . The name refers to the term abrogation from church law .
biography
Abrogation was founded by “Schwarte” and “RW” in the mid-1990s, later guitarist “Poldi” joined the band . In 1997 the first demo recording Screams of Soul was released, which was followed in 1998 by the EP Creation of Madness . In 1999 the debut album Handwerk des Todes was released , which, in contrast to the demo recordings, only contained German text and was therefore comparatively unconventional compared to the German metal scene of the time. Since the band didn't have a drummer at that time, a drum computer had to replace them. The craft of death was an in-house production that was correspondingly less widespread. The reviews have been mostly positive. Shortly after the release of the debut, drummer "John Doe" joined the band, which made appearances possible, which also met with positive feedback. The high point of the band's history was the recording of the song The Black Death on an Unheard-of Sampler CD by Rock Hard magazine , on which underground bands without a record deal were allowed to publish.
In the following years, Abrogation signed a contract with the music label Grind Syndicate (distributed by Nuclear Blast ), so that in 2002 the second album Das Blut der Toten could be recorded under professional conditions and widely distributed. In 2004 the third studio album 1487 was released, but again as an in-house production. In 2009, the album Sarggeburt followed , also on their own. The band is still active in the underground today and played as a support act for Riger and Adorned Brood, among others . In 2010 the band played two concerts in the Metalmarkt tent at the Wacken Open Air . In 2011 a recording contract was signed with Medusa Records / unit productions . Then the album was released deep black bloody red . At the end of 2012 singer and guitarist Schwarte decided to leave the band. "Fenris" joined in early 2013 as the new singer. In 2016 "Kutte" was won as the 2nd guitarist, so the line-up was complete again.
style
The group pursues a style of music that is mainly in the melodic death metal area, but also has influences from heavy and thrash metal . In terms of text, mainly the Middle Ages , religion or social issues are discussed, always on a philosophical level.
