Anti-pirate operations off Somalia
In early December 2008, the rescued Absalon around 90 nautical miles from the Yemeni coast from pirates from distress. The pirates had been floating on the water for eight days because of an engine breakdown. "After they pulled the pirates out of the water, the Danish marines sank their boat in which they had found four anti-tank missiles, among other things."
At the beginning of January 2012, the warship rescued 14 hostages from a captured fishing vessel. In addition, 25 alleged pirates were arrested. The hostages were Iranians and Pakistanis .
In another anti-pirate operation in late February, two hostages were killed when the warship set fire to a pirate ship to stop it leaving Somali coastal waters. 16 other hostages from Iran and Pakistan were released. 17 alleged pirates are also said to have been on board the pirate ship.
