The Acarosporaceae are an isolated family of the hose fungi , which form their own order Acorosporales and subclass Acarosporomycetidae .
features
The fruit bodies (Ascomata) are seated on the thalli or sunk into them. They are disc-shaped or perithecic . The hymenium is not amyloid . The paraphyses are weak to barely branched, septate, and weak to barely anastomosing. The asci are functionally unitunicate, not amyloid and form many spores, usually over 100 ascospores per ascus. The ascospores are hyaline , small, not septate.
Way of life
The Acarosporaceae are lichens . Their primary photobionts are green algae of the genera Trentepohlia and, more rarely, Myrmecia . The Acarospora Peak , a mountain in Antarctica is to the lichen emergens Acarospora named that was found there.
Systematics
The family was formerly part of the Lecanorales . DNA sequence comparisons have shown an isolated position of the family, whereupon it was placed in a separate subclass Acarosporomycetidae of the class Lecanoromycetes in 2004. It is the basal group of the Lecanoromycetes and the sister group of all other Lecanoromycetes.
Eriksson (2006) lists the following genres for the family:
