Achille Corona

Achille Corona (born July 30, 1914 in Rome ; † November 20, 1979 ) was an Italian politician of the Partito Socialista Italiano (PSI), who was a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) from 1948 to 1972 . He temporarily held ministerial posts and was most recently a member of the Senate ( Senato della Repubblica ) between 1972 and 1976 and at the same time a member of the European Parliament .

Life

Corona completed a law degree after attending school and then worked as a lawyer and journalist . In the elections of April 18, 1948 , he was elected for the first time as a member of the Chamber of Deputies (Camera dei Deputati) , in which he represented the interests of the Ancona province until May 24, 1972 . At the beginning of his parliamentary membership, he was a member of the Interior Committee in the first and second and at the beginning of the third legislative period between June 1948 and June 1959. In addition, he was a member of the Rules of Procedure committee from June 1958 to May 1963 and a member of the Constitutional Committee between July 1959 and May 1963.

During the fourth legislative period, Corona was initially vice-chairman of the Interior Committee from July to December 1963, before being appointed by Prime Minister Aldo Moro as Minister for Tourism and Events (Ministro del Turismo e Spettacolo) in its first cabinet on December 4, 1963 . He held this ministerial office until June 24, 1968 in Moro's second and third cabinet .

Corona, who temporarily belonged to the Partito Socialista Democratico Italiano (PSDI) between November 1966 and October 1968 and then rejoined the PSI, acted as chairman of the interior committee of the Chamber of Deputies during the fifth legislative period between July 1968 and May 1972.

In the elections of May 7, 1972 , Corona was finally elected a member of the Senate (Senato della Repubblica) , to which he belonged until the end of the sixth legislative period on July 4, 1976 as a representative of the Marche region . During this time he was a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Constitutional Affairs. In the meantime, he served from July 6, 1973 to March 31, 1974 as Minister without Portfolio for the Environment in the fourth Rumor cabinet . He was also a member of the European Parliament between October 26, 1972 and July 4, 1976 .
