Career

After training as a banker at Deutsche Bank , Kassow began studying business administration at the University of Cologne in 1988 . From 1993 he worked again for Deutsche Bank, at the same time doing his doctorate in 1996 at Cologne University. From 1999 he was involved in the development of the subsidiary Deutsche Bank 24 , which was spun off for the private customer business , where he was promoted to the board. After Josef Ackermann initiated a change of strategy after taking over the chairmanship of the parent company in 2002, Kassow moved to the Comdirect Bank as CEO . Between 2004 and 2011 he was a member of the Board of Management of Commerzbank, responsible for the Asset Management, Private Customers and Central & Eastern Europe segments . There he was at times considered to be a possible successor to long-term CEO Klaus-Peter Müller , who was ultimately inherited by board colleague Martin Blessing in 2008 and with whom there were later disagreements on the board. In the summer of 2011 he finally left the company to switch to the regional bank Oldenburgische Landesbank ; Ulrich Sieber took over responsibility for Central and Eastern European business. He was CEO of the Allianz Germany subsidiary until 2014. Among other things, a modernization course for the branch network was initiated under his leadership.

In autumn 2014, Kassow moved to the insurance division of the parent company Allianz Deutschland, where he took over the operational insurance business for property, life and health insurance in southern Germany. In autumn 2016, the former Allianz Germany boss Markus Rieß brought him to Ergo Germany , where he became Chief Operating Officer in January 2017 . There he appeared with a consistent renovation and modernization course, in which the insurance group was geared towards digitization. In December 2019 it was announced that he will be appointed to the Executive Board of the reinsurance parent company Munich Re as the successor to Hermann Pohlchristoph , who will be leaving at the end of March 2020, with responsibility for Asia-Pacific and Africa as well as Central Procurement and Services .
