Achim Knispel (born January 13, 1947 in Erfurt ; † June 3, 1999 in Wuppertal ) was a German guitarist of the new improvisation music , painter and draftsman.

Live and act

Knispel was a self-taught guitar player . He appeared in various rock groups since the mid-1960s, for example with "Horizon Cee", which he founded with Hans Reichel . He studied fine arts in Wuppertal from 1969 to 1975.

In 1971 he received the “Märkische Prize for Young Visual Artists” from the Karl Ernst Osthaus Museum ( Hagen ). His works have been shown in many exhibitions. Between 1979 and 1981 he belonged to the group of artists and musicians who founded the producer gallery "360 degrees - scope for ideas" in Wuppertal's Luisenstraße .

In addition to the fine arts, he also appeared again and again as a guitarist, with an independent playing style , partly inspired by rock music . He developed his own playing technique, turning up the amplifier so far "that even touching it with the grip hand generates noise". He presented himself nationally as a guitarist for the first time in 1974 at the German Jazz Festival in Frankfurt in a solo concert. Knispel not only worked as a soloist, but also in a quartet with Hans Reichel, Michel Waisvisz and Buschi Niebergall . He played in a duo with Reichel ("Erdmännchen", 1977). During the 1980s he often appeared in a duo with Willi Kellers ("Eickendorffbalade", 1981), which was expanded to a trio by Trevor Watts or Lol Coxhill . He also played with Phil Minton , Peter Brötzmann , Peter Kowald , John Tchicai and Julie and Keith Tippett .
