Achmedbek Massaqbajuly Achmetschanow ( Kazakh Ахмедбек Масақбайұлы Ахметжанов , Russian Ахмедбек Масакбаевич Ахметжанов / Achmedbek Massakbajewitsch Achmetschanow * 8. December 1966 in Saryusenski, Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh politician.

Life

Akhmedbek Akhmachanov was born in 1966 in the village of Saryusensky in the former Torghai region. He obtained in 1991 a degree in economics at the BG Institute Karaganda . In 2011, she received another degree from Qostanai State University.

He began his professional career as an employee of a company before doing military service in the Soviet army between 1984 and 1987 . Afterwards he worked again in companies, this time also in managerial positions. From March 1998 to January 1999 he was an inspector in the office of the Qostanai Oblast Tax Police Committee, and from January 1999 to April 2001 he was chairman of the Äulieköl County Tax Committee. Between April 2001 and March 2007 he was chairman of the Qostanai County Tax Committee. In March 2007 he was named Äkim of Taran County and on September 24, 2010 he became Äkim of Qostanai County. On June 18, 2014, he was appointed Äkim (Mayor) of Qostanai City .

On September 8, 2015, Akhmetchanov resigned as mayor of Qostanai. He was arrested the same day. He was accused of abuse of office and taking bribes of around 84 million tenge . On April 11, 2016, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison for taking multiple bribes. In June 2017, after review by the Kazakh Supreme Court, the sentence was reduced to five years and eight months.
