Acoustic Aid is the title of a music sampler that was created in 1992 for the benefit of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation . The album contained songs that had been donated by the respective artists.

background

The album was initiated and compiled by employees of the now defunct US radio station "KOME 98.5 FM" and is dedicated to Freddie Mercury , who died of AIDS a year before the CD was released. Brian May wrote a greeting message for the buyers, which can be found in the booklet :

Thank you for buying this CD. In doing so, you have advanced the good work that KOME and the San Francisco Aids Foundation are doing in combating the terrible virus that took Freddie from us. AIDS has attacked and killed many of the talented and innovative among us; now it threatens our friends, families and children, and it cuts ties on every resume. Only by caring can we stop it. With love, Brian May "

- Liner notes of the CD

Many artists contributed to this album with titles that were partly unreleased or previously unknown in the respective version, such as Nils Lofgren , The Black Crowes and Greg Lake .

reception

Audio wrote:

Now the unplugged wave is washing the first sampler under the laser: In San Francisco the radio station KOME Rockstars went to an AIDS benefit album - and got 16 live acoustic versions together. Mostly unpublished or specially produced, one highlight follows another almost seamlessly. Among them: Queen (Is This The World We Created), the Allman Brothers with a grandiose Melissa version, Jethro Tull (Bourrée), Mr. Big (To Be With You), the Black Crowes and as the German representative MSG. Only good! "
