Adán Jonathan Vergara Villagra (born May 9, 1981 in Iquique ) is a former Chilean football player . The defender won the Chilean championship several times.

Career

society

Vergara learned the ABC of football in the youth departments of CF Universidad de Chile and CD Cobreloa . For the 1998 season he moved up to the professional squad of Cobreloa. He soon played his way into the club's starting XI. In 2003 the defensive player with CDC won both the Apertura and the Clausura championships. The following year they defended the Clausura title. In April 2004 he was banned for six months after a positive doping test . In 2005 Vergara moved to Mexico, where he signed with CF Atlante . With these he won the Copa Pachuca in the summer . After this success, the defender moved to Brazil, to CR Vasco da Gama . After only a few games for the Bacalhau , Vergara moved back to Chile, where he then played for Unión Española . After consistent performance, European clubs became aware of the defensive player. After his contract with Unión expired, Vergara was without a club and kept fit with the Swiss club FC Zurich . After good impressions, coach Bernard Challandes signed him. Vergara played for FCZ in 2006, but was still in Chile at the time. After only one year, Vergara was awarded to league competitor FC Luzern . At this point he had no chance with the Zurich kickers and was already demoted to the second team. But things didn't go well at the new club either. In his first competitive game for Lucerne, the South American was sent off after a headbutt against Xavier Hochstrasser . Shortly afterwards, in March, the Chilean moved to China, to Dalian Shide . Since 2010 he has been playing in the Primera División of his home country again, where he represents the colors of CD Universidad Católica . In mid-2011 he switched to CD Santiago Wanderers , but couldn't establish himself there either. After a brief engagement in Venezuela, he played in Chile until he retired in 2017.

National team

Vergara wore the jersey of various junior national teams in Chile. With these he took part in the Junior World Cup in 2001 . After the two defeats in the beginning, Vergara came in the last group game for his first and only use in the competition. In the only win during the tournament, the defender was on the field for the full game.
