Ada Bojana (also known as Ada , Albanian Ada e Bunës ) is an island belonging to Montenegro in the Adriatic Sea . It is located in the small delta of the river Bojana (Albanian: Buna ) in the Adriatic Sea. The Bojana forms the border to neighboring Albania on its lower course .
Ada Bojana has roughly the shape of a triangle. The extension is around three kilometers by two and a half kilometers. The island was formed by the floating debris of the Buna / Bojana. It is therefore very flat and rises barely more than three meters above sea level. There is a long sandy beach on the seaside. Numerous rare bird species are at home on Ada.
The only hotel on the island is aimed in particular at nudist tourists. Ada Bojana is connected to the Montenegrin side of the mainland by a bridge over the right arm of the river. There is the small town of Sveti Nikola .
Emergence
In the 19th century there were two small islands in the mouth of the Bojana. In 1858 the schooner Merito from Trogir sank in the river. It is believed that over time, material carried along by the river accumulated around the hull of the sunken ship and filled the gap between the two islets, creating today's Ada.
