The Rothaarbock ( Pyrrhidium sanguineum ) or Red disc Bock is a beetle from the family of longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae).

features

The beetles are 8 to 12 millimeters long. They have a black to brown-black colored body and yellow-red to yellow-brown wings . These are like the pronotum entire hairy red. The pronotum is transverse and has a large triangular hump on the side. The antennae are body-length in the males, in the females they reach up to half. However, the females are significantly larger than the males, which is why they have approximately the same length of antennae. The legs have wide thighs.

Occurrence

They occur from April to June in large parts of Europe , in North Africa , Asia Minor and the Middle East in oak , deciduous forests , gardens and also in the vicinity of wood stores. The beetles often hatch from firewood in winter when it is stored in warm rooms for several days. However, this beetle does not pose a threat to wood used in buildings, as it is too dry.

Way of life

The eggs are laid in the cracks of dry, semi- strong oak branches or other deciduous trees ( beech , hornbeam , elm or fruit trees). The larvae initially develop under the bark and later penetrate three to six centimeters deep into the wood, where they pupate after one to two years. The adults live in the trees.
