Ada Patterson
Ada Patterson (born July 5, 1867 in Mount Joy , Pennsylvania , † June 26, 1939 ) was an American journalist and theater critic .
Life
Ada Patterson was the daughter of John M. and Elizabeth E. McDannel Patterson. She studied at the Franklin Academy in Franklin , Nebraska . She later became a journalist and wrote for the Salt Lake Herald , the San Francisco Call , the St. Louis Republic and the New York American , among others . She got her first journalistic job in New York City when she heard about the execution of the wealthy Dr. Arthur Duestrow, who killed his wife and child while intoxicated, reported. From then on she wrote for the New York American about trials and executions, including about Nan Patterson and Anne M. Bradley, who was accused of killing Senator Arthur M. Brown. Brown was the stepfather of actress Maude Adams . Patterson wrote her first book about her in 1907 with the biography Maude Adams: a biography .
In 1923 she quit her job at American and moved to theater magazine , where she wrote columns and critics about the New York theater scene.
