Adalbert Zafirow (born September 29, 1969 in Sofia ) is a former Bulgarian football player and current coach . He played on the position of central defender .
Player career
In 1997 Zafirow moved from CSKA Sofia to the Bundesliga to Arminia Bielefeld , where he played 10 Bundesliga games and two second division games. In 1998 he moved to 1. FC Union Berlin before returning to ZSKA Sofia in 2001. In the following years he changed clubs several times and went to Cherno More Varna in 2002 , to Anagennisi Derynias in 2003 and again to CSKA Sofia in 2004, where he ended his career in 2005. He played six times for the Bulgarian national team .
Coaching career
After the end of his active career, Zafirow worked as a football coach. In April 2010 he replaced Ioan Andone as head coach of CSKA Sofia and looked after the team before a new coach was found in Pavel Dotchev . In the summer of 2011 he took over Kaliakra Kawarna in the A Grupa , but was dismissed after the ninth matchday of the 2011/12 season . He then became an assistant coach at ZSKA. He held the post until September 2012 when he became the new head coach of Cherno More Varna . He was released there at the end of 2012. At the beginning of 2015 he took over FC Botew Wraza in B Grupa and had to leave the club before the end of the 2014/15 season .
