Adam Carse

Adam Carse (born May 19, 1878 in Newcastle upon Tyne , † November 2, 1958 in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire ) was an English collector and composer .

Life

Carse received his training in Hanover and at the Royal Academy of Music . After working as an Assistant Music Master at Winchester College from 1909 , he returned to the Royal Academy of Music in 1922 as a professor of harmony and counterpoint, and became a professor that same year.

Carse gained a high reputation for his studies of the history of instruments and the orchestra as well as for his collection of around 350 old wind instruments, which he donated to the Horniman Museum in London in 1947 . As a historian, he was interested in the development of instruments from their original to their modern form.
