Adam Cooper

Adam Cooper (born July 22, 1971 in London ) is an English film and theater actor , choreographer , dancer and theater director , who became known outside the ballet for his impersonation of the adult Billy in the movie Billy Elliot - I Will Dance (2000).

Life

Adam Cooper was born on July 22, 1971 in Tooting (London) to a musician and a social worker. Cooper has an older brother, Simon Cooper, who is also a dancer. Together with him he attended the Jean Winkler School of Dance in Tooting in his childhood and learned various musical instruments. At the age of 11, Cooper was able to get a place at ArtsEd , an acting school in London where he was trained in singing, acting, classical ballet and modern dance, among other things. Thereafter, Cooper was accepted into the Royal Ballet Upper School at the age of 16 . In his graduation performance he played the lead role in Les Deux Pigeons .

Cooper began his professional career as a dancer in classical and contemporary ballet. In 1989 Cooper joined the Royal Ballet Company in London, where he was quickly used for solo performances and leading roles, and he passed his final exams in 1994. In 1995 Cooper was hired by Matthew Bourne , and he starred in a reinterpretation of Swan Lake . With this work, Cooper attracted worldwide attention and received numerous awards, such as the Time Out Award (1995), the Evening Standard Dance Award (1997) and the Astaire Award for Best Dancer (1999). In 1999, Cooper was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical . In 2000, Cooper was seen in this role in the final scene of the film Billy Elliot - I Will Dance as the adult protagonist.

Cooper currently works as a performer and choreographer in the musical theater field.

Cooper has been married to the dancer and actress Sarah Wildor since 2000 . The two have two daughters.
