Adam Friday

Adam Freitag (* Toruń 1608 ; † 1650 in Kėdainiai ; also Adammus Freitag and Adam Freytag ) was a Polish war builder (engineer) and doctor.

Life

Friday was a Prussian by birth. He was first in the service of Waladislaus Sigismund of Poland and later moved to the Netherlands. He received his doctorate in medicine and philosophy in Leiden and was later professor of mathematics in Kiejdany ( Lithuania ) and personal physician to Prince Janusz Radziwill . Together with Wilhelm Dilich he is considered to be the main representative of the Old Dutch manner for the defense of flat regions. The Dutch fortress town of Heusden was his great ideal.
