Adam Johnson (born July 12, 1967 in South Dakota ) is an American writer .
Life
Adam Johnson was born in South Dakota in 1967 and grew up in Arizona . He graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1992, and then earned a Master of Fine Arts as part of a writing degree at McNeese State University , Louisiana. In 2000 he received his PhD from Florida State University . Johnson currently lives and works in San Francisco as a writer and teaches creative writing at Stanford University . He is the founder of the Stanford Graphic Novel Project. The Playboy Magazine named him one of the most influential and resourceful college professors in the nation.
2012 his novel in the US The Orphan Master's Son ( German The stolen life of orphans in June Thu ), who within a few days after the release already on the bestseller list of the New York Times was.
Before The Robbed Life of the Orphan Jun Do , he published a collection of short stories under the title Emporium and the novel Parasites Like Us , which won the 2003 California Book Award. To date, Johnson has published in Harper's Magazine, Tin House and The Paris Review , as well as in the anthologies Best New American Voices and The Best American Short Stories.
Awards
Johnson has received various awards and grants. In 2002 he was named Debut Author of the Year by Amazon.com, and in 2003 he was selected for the Discover Great New Writers book series published by Barnes & Noble . He won the Gina Berriault Litery Award . In April 2013 Johnson was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for the best novel for his North Korea novel The Orphan Master's Son ( German The robbed life of the orphan Jun Do ) . In 2013 he received the Dayton Literary Peace Prize for the same novel . In 2015 he was awarded the National Book Award for Fortune Smiles .
