Parish Church of St. Martin

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Martin an der Raab is visible from afar on a hill in the municipality of Sankt Martin an der Raab ( Hungarian : Rábaszentmárton , Slovenian : Sveti Martin ) in the Jennersdorf district in Burgenland . It is dedicated to St. Martin . Together with the parish Neuhaus am Klausenbach, it forms a parish association in the Jennersdorf dean's office .

location

The church is on the left near St. Martin in the Raab Valley . It stands a little higher than the market town, but with its church hamlet , the town Kirchengreut (address Kirchenzipf ), belongs to the town of Eisenberg and the cadastral community of Neumarkt , the town downstream.

history

A parish and a first church already existed in the 13th century. Today's baroque church was built in 1746 in place of the medieval church. The church was badly damaged in World War II and rebuilt between 1947 and 1973. Renovations took place in 1977, 1987 and 2007.

The parish has two branches : Zum hl. Vitus in Welten-Deutscheck , and on St. John the Baptist in Windisch Minihof .

The parish registers begin in 1700.

Architecture and equipment

The interior of the church

The church is a single-nave hall building with a high, recessed choir with a semicircular apse. A facade tower is integrated above the Emporenjoch in the west. This is structured on the upper floor by Corinthian pilasters and is crowned by an onion helmet with a lantern.

There is a sacristy annex on the north side of the choir. On the eastern outer wall there is a tombstone with a coat of arms from 1620 for two children of Gottfried Welzer zu Spiegelfeld.

Above the three-bay nave is a barrel vault with stitch caps. In the vertices between the belt arches , which rest on strong pilasters, there are hollyhocks.

The church has a simple gallery. A triumphal arch separates the polygonal closed apse (with cap vault) from the rest of the church.

The high altar is a richly decorated baroque altar from the middle of the 18th century with a two-story structure. The altarpiece shows St. Martin sharing the coat with the beggar. The picture was painted by Johann B. Ranncher in 1748. The top picture shows St. Dominic . To the left and right of it are carved figures of Saints Peter and Paul .

The two side altars date from the middle of the 18th century. The altarpiece on the right side altar shows St. Patricius . It is flanked by figures of the holy kings Stephen of Hungary and Ladislaus of Hungary . The essay is a small figure of St. George . The altarpiece on the left altar shows the crucifixion of Christ . The figures on the side are St. Florian and St. Stephen. The altars were restored between 1976 and 1977.

Stations of the Cross hang on the walls. Like the pulpit, they were created in the middle of the 18th century. The pulpit has a simple basket. There is a volute crown on the sound cover.

The cemetery is located around the church. Here is a remarkable wooden cross from the 19th century.
