Eisenberg on the Raab

The Roman barrows found in the vicinity of Eisenberg (Eisenberger Kegeläcker) and the foundation walls of a Roman building (Villa rustica) suggest an early settlement. In 1970 Eisenberg came together with five other formerly independent municipalities through a merger to form Sankt Martin an der Raab. There is a beautification association and the volunteer fire department in the village .

Apparition of the Virgin Mary (lawn cross from Eisenberg)

On 8. October 1954 in Eisenberg woman Aloisia Lex should (1907-1984), the Virgin Mary and on 6. September 1956 an angel to have appeared. From 1956 to 1992, a mysterious 120 cm cross in the grass, the so-called “Eisenberg lawn cross”, appeared on your property at the point where this apparition is said to have taken place. This cross is said not to have been due to chemicals in the soil or to physical influences.

The Roman Catholic Church does not recognize these phenomena. In the literature, doubts about the appearance have been published and the thought that capital will be made from the sanctuary. The cross has not been visible since 1993 . But in the years around 2010 , people mainly from Switzerland, Hungary, Poland and Slovenia made pilgrimages to his place.

A pilgrims' home was built in St. Martin an der Raab / Eisenberg in 1972/73. It was built by the Lawn Cross Pilgrim Association from Switzerland. This association was founded for this purpose. In the following years up to six pilgrimages per year were carried out. The lawn cross pilgrims' association was dissolved in 2007. Visitors can take the “ holy water ” in containers as a souvenir. However, it is only normal tap water from the local water supply.
