Gritsch is a place in the Jennersdorf district in southern Burgenland in Austria and a cadastral community of St. Martin an der Raab . As of January 1, 2020, the place has a total of 103 inhabitants.

The place is in the Raab valley .

In the north, Gritsch borders on Jennersdorf , in the east and south-east on Doiber , in the south-west and west on Welten .

The local border to Jennersdorf forms the Raab in the north. The local border to Welten forms the east of the Gritschbach , which has its origin in Weltenberg and flows into the Raab near Gritsch.

history

The first settlements are lost in the gray of the past. As the finds in the forest between Gritsch and Doiber document, the place was already settled in Roman times.

On June 8, 1867, the unified imperial state Austria-Hungary was politically divided into the independent halves of Austria and Hungary. Like all of Burgenland, until 1921 Gritsch belonged to the Hungarian half of the empire, the German-West Hungary region . After the end of the First World War , the municipality was awarded to Austria in 1919 according to the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon .

As a result of the annexation to the German Reich , Burgenland was dissolved in 1938. Until 1945 Gritsch belonged to the Feldbach district , Gau Steiermark .

With effect from January 1, 1971, due to the community structure reform law , the formerly independent municipality Gritsch together with the formerly independent municipalities also Doiber, Neumarkt an der Raab , Oberdrosen together and worlds with the community of St. Martin an der Raab.

The local area is crossed in the north by Güssinger Straße (B58), which leads from Oberwart via Jennersdorf to Feldbach . Doiber-Welten-Landesstraße (L268) leads directly through the village, which branches off from Doiber Straße (B58) at the roundabout in St. Martin an der Raab and joins Welten in Güssinger Straße.

The Neuhauser Hügelland cycle path (B70) leads through the village , with its 43.3 kilometer long circuit from St. Martin an der Raab via Oberdrosen , Tauka , Kalch , Neuhaus am Klausenbach, the Hirzenriegel and Welten back to St. Martin an der Raab leads. Since there are 569 meters of altitude to overcome, the bike path is only recommended for experienced cyclists.

The mayor of Gritsch is Manfred Redl. Otherwise, Gritsch has had no representatives in the municipal council since the 2012 municipal council election. The local committee consists of Manfred Redl, Franz Willgruber, Franz Wild, Cindy Redl (all SPÖ ) and Ernst Lex ( ÖVP ). The place was previously represented in the local parliament by Franz Petanovits (from 1992 to 2012) and Ernst Lex (from 2008 to 2012).

  • Voluntary fire brigade Gritsch - The fire brigade was founded in 1937. As of November 11, 2014, there are 22 active members and 3 reservists. The commandant is Karl Janosch. On February 29, 2008, the municipality decided to build a new fire station in Gritsch. For this purpose, a 300 square meter plot of land was purchased and the old fire station was removed. The construction costs of around 150,000 euros were partly borne by the municipality of St. Martin, the state of Burgenland and the Gritsch fire brigade. In 2009 a used small fire engine was purchased with the support of the community. On June 5, 2010 the new fire station was blessed and given its purpose.
