Oberdrosen ( Hungarian language : Rábaőr ) is a village in the Jennersdorf district in southern Burgenland in Austria and a cadastral community of St. Martin an der Raab . As of January 1, 2020, the place had a total of 208 inhabitants.

The place is close to the border triangle Austria / Hungary / Slovenia .

In the north Oberdrosen borders on St. Martin an der Raab, in the northeast on Neumarkt an der Raab , in the east and southeast on Felsőszölnök , in the south on Kuzma , in the southwest on Tauka and in the west on Windisch Minihof .

The place is traversed from north to south by the Drosenbach , the Münzgrabenbach and the Reitschulbach . While the Drosenbach rises in Oberdrosen and St. Martin an der Raab flows into the Raab, the other two brooks have their origin in Felsőszölnök and flow into the Raab in Neumarkt an der Raab.

The highest elevation in the village and the entire municipality of St. Martin an der Raab is the Holzmannkogel near the border with Hungary with a height of 393  m above sea level. A. The tri-border area (Tromejnik) lies at an altitude of 387  m above sea level. A.

history

The first settlements are lost in the gray of the past. As the finds and burial mounds document, worlds may have been inhabited as early as the Roman times.

The settlement was first mentioned in 1387 according to the explanations of the Hungarian historian Csánki Dezső . In 1607 the place was owned by the Batthyány family . In 1787 there were 279 and in 1830 330 inhabitants were counted.

On June 8, 1867, the unified imperial state of Austria was politically divided into the independent halves of Austria and Hungary. Like all of Burgenland, Oberdrosen belonged to the Hungarian half of the empire, region German-West Hungary, until 1921 . By order of the government in Budapest , the Hungarian place name Rábaőr had to be used from 1898 due to the policy of Magyarization .

In 1910, 486 predominantly German-speaking residents were registered.

After the end of the First World War , the municipality was awarded to Austria in 1919 according to the treaties of St. Germain and Trianon .

As a result of the annexation to the German Reich , Burgenland was dissolved in 1938. Until 1945 Oberdrosen belonged to the Feldbach district , Gau Steiermark .

With effect from January 1, 1971, due to the community structure reform law , the formerly independent municipality Oberdrosen together with the formerly independent municipalities also Gritsch, Doiber, Neumarkt an der Raab joined forces and worlds with the community of St. Martin an der Raab.

The local area is crossed by the Oberdrosener Landesstraße L419, which branches off from Doiber Straße B 58 in Tauka and joins the L255 in St. Martin an der Raab.

Oberdrosen can be reached by public transport using the Postbus line 1880, which is a circular route from Jennersdorf via St. Martin an der Raab and Oberdrosen and back to Jennersdorf. However, in the 2014 timetable there are only five courses on this route (some only on a partial route) and these only run on school days from Monday to Friday.

In 2013 the chapel was renovated and restored in coordination with the Federal Monuments Office . Among other things, the roof was re-covered with larch shingles.

The place is part of the Raab-Őrség-Goričko Nature Park .

The Neuhauser Hügelland cycle path (B70) leads through the village , its 43.3 km long circuit from St. Martin an der Raab via Oberdrosen, Tauka, Kalch , Neuhaus am Klausenbach, the Hirzenriegel and Doiber back to St. Martin an der Raab leads. Since there are 569 meters of altitude to overcome, the bike path is only recommended for experienced cyclists.

Mayor of Oberdrosen is Wolfgang Wildling. In the council of the city after the municipal elections in 2012 with Johann mouth (is SPÖ ), Franz Mohapp ( ÖVP ) and Marlies Krois represented (list future St. Martin an der Raab). The local committee consists of Wolfgang Wildling, Reinhard Dravetz, Manfred Eisenberger (all SPÖ), Alois Gyetschek and Markus Maitz (both ÖVP). Johann Bedek, who had been a member of the local council since 1991, and Andreas Jud (since 2007) left the local council in 2012.

  • Oberdrosen volunteer fire brigade - The weir was founded in 1924. As of November 12, 2014, there are 32 active members and 7 reservists. The commandant is Ernst Preininger.
In addition to its usual tasks, the fire brigade is also the initiator of various events such as the carnival fair and the family festival.
