Doiber ( Hungarian language : Döbör ) is a place in the Jennersdorf district in southern Burgenland in Austria and a cadastral community of St. Martin an der Raab . As of January 1, 2020, the place has a total of 235 inhabitants.

The place is in the Raab valley .

Doiber borders Jennersdorf in the north, St. Martin an der Raab in the east, Windisch-Minihof in the south, Welten in the south-west and Gritsch in the west .

The local border to St. Martin an der Raab forms the Doiberbach in the east, which has its origin in Neuhaus am Klausenbach . In the north, the Raab forms the border with Jennersdorf.

history

The first settlements are lost in the gray of the past. As the finds in the forest between Doiber and Gritsch document, the place was already settled in Roman times.

On June 8, 1867, the unified imperial state Austria-Hungary was politically divided into the independent halves of Austria and Hungary. Doiber, like all of Burgenland, belonged to the Hungarian half of the empire, region German-West Hungary, until 1921 . By order of the government in Budapest , the Hungarian place name Malomgödör had to be used from 1898 due to the policy of Magyarization .

After the end of the First World War , the municipality was awarded to Austria in 1919 according to the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon .

As a result of the annexation to the German Reich , Burgenland was dissolved in 1938. Doiber belonged to the Feldbach district , Gau Steiermark , until 1945 .

With effect from January 1, 1971, due to the community structure reform law , the formerly independent municipality Doiber together with the anterior also independent communities Gritsch, Neumarkt an der Raab , Oberdrosen together and worlds with the community of St. Martin an der Raab.

The local area is crossed in the north by Güssinger Straße (B57), which leads from Oberwart via Jennersdorf to Feldbach . Doiber-Welten-Landesstraße (L268) leads directly through the village, which branches off from Doiber Straße (B58) at the roundabout in St. Martin an der Raab and joins Welten in Güssinger Straße.

Attractions

  • Chapel - The chapel was built in 1812. It was renovated in 2001 and 2012 by the Doiber Beautification Association and is a listed building ( list entry ).

The place is part of the Raab-Őrség-Goričko Nature Park .

The Neuhauser Hügelland (B70) cycle path leads through the village , with its 43.3-kilometer circuit from St. Martin an der Raab via Oberdrossen , Tauka , Kalch , Neuhaus am Klausenbach, the Hirzenriegel and Welten back to St. Martin an der Raab leads. Since there are 569 meters of altitude to overcome, the bike path is only recommended for experienced cyclists.

The head of Doiber is Christian Kahr, who has held this position since March 1, 2009. In the council Doiber is after the municipal elections of 2012 Franz pint ( SPÖ ) and Ewald Laczko ( ÖVP represented). The local committee is made up of Christian Kahr, Franz Wagner (both SPÖ), Hans-Peter Wagner, Christian Bauer (both ÖVP) and Eduard Windisch (Zukunft St. Martin an der Raab list).

  • Doiber Volunteer Fire Brigade - The fire brigade was founded in 1925. As of November 11, 2014, there are 30 active members, 1 youth and 12 reservists. Christian Kahr is in command.
According to tradition, a fire brigade founded by Georg Lendl already existed in Doiber in 1864 . Obsolete this loose association of men who had set out to help fight fires by the community. A hand-operated pressure syringe was purchased to effectively fight fires . It is known that a major fire broke out in 1916 in which eight houses burned down. This fire is said to have been successfully fought only with the help of the St. Gotthard fire brigade (now Hungary ) with a steam pressure spray.
On the occasion of the establishment of the Doiber volunteer fire brigade in 1925, a hand-operated pressure sprayer for horse-drawn teams was procured. The fire station was built a year later . In 1940 a motor syringe was put into operation.
As a result of the turmoil of the Second World War, all equipment and devices were lost, so that in 1950 another motorized syringe and hose material were purchased. Money was saved through various events in order to renew and expand the equipment. In 1955, a motor vehicle was purchased from the remnants of the Russian crew . During a ceremony on May 15, 1969, a small fire engine and a motorized sprayer were handed over to their destination. In the following years, the fire brigade was equipped with radios and the nationwide siren system was installed in the fire station.
On June 27, 1993 a new small fire engine and a new portable fire pump were put into operation. 32 women from Doiber acted as godmothers . Between 1995 and 2000 the old fire station was rebuilt and renovated.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new fire station took place in autumn 2005. This was blessed on August 25, 2007 and handed over to its destination by Governor Hans Niessl . It is noteworthy that the new fire station is owned by the municipality and the fire brigade only acts as a tenant. The rental costs were set at an index of 4,500 euros per year.
Previous commanders of the Doiber Volunteer Fire Brigade were: Josef Broder (from 1925 to 1940 and from 1945 to 1954), Franz Redl (from 1940 to 1945), Josef Poglitsch (from 1954 to 1977), Hermann Gmeindl (from 1978 to 1979), Karl Pfeiffer (from 1980 to 2000) and Walter Kern (2000–2010).
