History, infrastructure and culture
The current settlement was first mentioned in 1387, but it may be older: the old church dates back to the 13th century and the parish was founded at that time.
On June 8, 1867, the unified imperial state Austria-Hungary was politically divided into the independent halves of Austria and Hungary . Like all of Burgenland, Welten belonged to the Hungarian half of the empire (Transleithanien) , region of German-West Hungary, until 1921 . Actually, the majority German-speaking, had to because of the Magyarization of the government in Budapest since 1898, the Hungarian name Szent Márton be used. With the treaties of St. Germain and Trianon , the community came to Austria in 1919/23. As a result of the annexation to the German Reich , Burgenland was dissolved in 1938. Until 1945, Welten belonged to the Feldbach district , Gau Steiermark .
Drosen was originally called Untere Straße (also Unter-Strasing ; Alsó-Strázsa or Unter-Drossen ), and together with Oberdrosen formed the community Alsó-és Felső-Strázsa (Untere and Obere Straße). The name Mühlanger refers to the historic Sankt Martin mill on the Raab.
With effect from January 1, 1971, the previously independent municipality of Welten, Gritsch, Doiber, Neumarkt and Oberdrosen were merged with the municipality of St. Martin an der Raab on the basis of the municipal structure improvement law. The original municipal area forms today's cadastral municipality.
