Adam of Württemberg

Adam Karl Wilhelm Nikolaus Paul Eugen von Württemberg (born January 16, 1792 in Pulawy , † July 27, 1847 in Langenschwalbach ) was Prince of Württemberg and an officer.

Life

Adam was the only son of Prince Ludwig of Württemberg (1756-1817) from his marriage to the Polish Princess Maria Anna Czartoryska (1768-1854). The marriage ended in divorce in October 1793, and Adam was raised by his father. He joined the Württemberg army, but shortly afterwards switched to Russian services and fought in France and Alsace in 1814/15. Prince Adam rose to the rank of lieutenant general and adjutant general with Tsar Nicholas I , his cousin, whom he had known from an early age . During the November Uprising he was in Warsaw , but soon afterwards left the city to go to the Russian governor Grand Duke Constantine . In the following war in Poland from 1831 he led a cavalry brigade under General Cyprian Kreutz . In 1845 he resigned from the Russian service. After that he lived mostly in Germany until his death. Adam Karl Wilhelm von Württemberg remained unmarried.
