Adam Kownacki (* 27. March 1989 in Lomza , Podlaskie , Poland ) is a Polish boxer in the heavyweight division .

Amateur career

Among the amateurs, Kownacki took part in the Golden Gloves tournament in 2007 and 2008 . However, he could not win a medal there. In 2007 he made it to the quarterfinals, where he had to admit defeat to Joe Hanks unanimously on points.

In 2006 and 2009 he became the New York Daily News Golden Gloves Champion and in 2008 he won the Metros Tournament .

Professional career

In 2009 Kownacki made his professional debut against Carossee Auponte and beat him with a technical knockout in the first round. In 2010 he had three more K .-. O victories. After his last fight in 2010, he was inactive for almost three years and only got back into the ring in 2013 against Carlbert Lewis, whom he defeated by TKo. This fight was also his only one that year.

It was not until 2016 that Kownacki boxed against opponents with better match records. That year he beat Danny Kelly (9-1-0) on points and Jesse Barboza (11-1-0) with a classic knockout in the 3rd round. The following year, he defeated the luscious Joshua Tufte (19-1-0) and the Poland Artur Szpilka (20-2-0), who had boxed against Deontay Wilder for the WBC World Championship just eight months earlier , also by knockout.

On September 8, 2018, Kownacki competed against former IBF world champion Charles Martin at the Barclays Center and won over 10 rounds by unanimous decision.

His next fight also took place at the Barclays Center. His opponent was Gerald Washington . Kownacki knocked Washington out in the 2nd round
