Adam Osgodby
Adam Osgodby (* before 1286 ; † August 1316 ) was an English cleric and Master of the Rolls from 1295 to 1316 .
Life
Osgodby came from Osgodby in Selby . He had a brother. Little is known about Osgodby's early life. He worked as a lawyer around 1286 . In 1289 he became a canon in York . Four years later, Osgodby took up a position as pastor in Gargrave . In 1295 Edward I appointed him Master of the Rolls. In this position from 1307 he was responsible for the Domus Conversorum , an accommodation for Jews who had converted to Christianity in Chancery Lane in London . From 1310 he led the firm of Lord Chancellor and was rewarded this year with £ 500th As a senior clerk he also performed the duties of Lord Keeper of the Great Seal several times .
At his death, he inherited 68 acres of land, a house, a windmill, and rental income of 6 marks and 10 shillings.
