Johannes Adam Trabert (born January 27, 1822 in Fulda ; † February 8, 1914 in Vienna ) was a German-speaking writer and lawyer .

life and work

He was born in the "Grauen Wolf" in Judengasse as the son of the Roman Catholic cutler Johann-Franz Trabert. After finishing high school, he passed the Matura exam in 1843 and studied theology at the Episcopal Seminary in Fulda for two years . At the University of Marburg Trabert graduated in law and completed it successfully with the state examination.

Politically, he was active as spokesman for the Alemannia Marburg fraternity , of which he had become a member in 1857, and as spokesman for the Marburg People's Council in 1848/1849. During this time he was also co-editor of the democratic weekly magazine “Wacht auf” in Fulda. He was involved as a member of the Hessian Estates Assembly in Kassel and is considered a co-founder of the "German People's Party" in Darmstadt. In 1868 Trabert founded the "Hessische Volkszeitung" in Kassel. After assuming Austrian citizenship and emigrating to the Alpine republic, he was co-editor of the “Austrian Journal”.

Trabert had various employment relationships: in Frankenberg he worked as a lawyer and advocate , in Nuremberg as private secretary and legal consultant with the industrialist Cramer-Klett. From 1871 to 1889 he worked as a civil servant at the general management of the Franz-Josphs-Bahn (Austrian State Railways) in Vienna .

Because of his political commitment, Trabert was imprisoned for three and a half years on Spangenberg for alleged crimes of majesty. The conviction was subsequently declared illegal and void by the Hessian estates in 1862. He was also in Prussian pre-trial detention for 6 months after the incorporation of Kurhessen into Prussia.

Trabert was married twice: in 1859 he married Elise Hohmann in Kassel, after her death on September 19, 1887, his second wife, Amalie Wirnitzer.

His grave of honor is located in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 0, row 1, number 70).
