Adele Addison

Adele Addison (born July 24, 1925 in Springfield , Massachusetts ) is an American opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Addison studied singing at Westminster Choir College in Princeton , New Jersey , and at the Berkshire Music Center in Tanglewood . She made her debut in 1952 in the Town Hall in New York. She then received engagements at the New England Opera and the New York City Opera and enjoyed great success with the American Orchestra . Her extraordinary repertoire included works from the baroque period to the 20th century.

In Otto Preminger's film adaptation of Porgy and Bess  (1959), Adele Addison lends Dorothy Dandridge her singing voice for the role of Bess.
