Adelphocoris ticinensis is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 7.0 to 7.6 millimeters long. The bugs, which are usually conspicuously reddish-brown in color, also occasionally appear in a greenish-brown basic color. Like the other species of the genus Adelphocoris , they have on the posterior rails ( tibia ) the same length or longer spurs than the widths of the rails. The thighs ( femora ) are spotted dark.

Occurrence and habitat

The species occurs in large parts of Europe and is only absent in Scandinavia and the south of the Mediterranean countries. To the east, the distribution area extends over Asia Minor to the Caucasus and the Caspian region. Apparently, this area is not populated across the board. A partial area extends from the south of England via the Netherlands to the North German lowlands, another extends from eastern Austria to southern Europe. In between there is an isolated occurrence in the Middle Rhine area, from which there are only two records from the 20th century. Several records of the species have also been known from eastern Saxony since 2007.

Different humid habitats such as wet meadows, low and high moors or silting areas of backwaters are settled.

Way of life

The bugs, which apparently show no specialization in certain types of plants, are found on herbaceous plants and bushes. Often they are found on common purple loosestrife ( Lythrum salicari ), yellow loosestrife ( Lysimachia ), swamp flat pea ( Lathyrus palustris ), swamp ziest ( Stachys palustris ), swamp horned clover ( Lotus uliginosus ) and marsh thistle ( Cirsium palustre ). They presumably feed on zoophytophagus, so they suckle on plants as well as predatory on small invertebrates. The overwintering takes place as an egg. The nymphs occur mainly in May and June, the adults are usually found from July, less often and earlier, especially in warm places.
