Adina Izarra

Adina Izarra (born August 27, 1959 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan composer .

Life

Izarra studied in Caracas at the Conservatorio Nacional de Musica Juan José Landaeta as well as with Alfredo del Mónaco and until 1989 at the University of York , England , composition with Vic Hoyland and electroacoustic music with Richard Orton. She then returned to Venezuela and taught at the Universidad Simón Bolívar in Caracas. Since 2016 she has been teaching at the Universidad de las Artes in Guayaquil , Ecuador .

Her work includes orchestral works, concerts, theater, chamber, piano, flute and guitar music as well as electronic , electroacoustic music and video art . In some works she deals with concrete music and bird songs, elements of early music and political themes also flow into her work.

Awards

She was awarded the National Prize for Composition four times (1984, 1985, 1990 and 1991) and was three times the representative of Venezuela at the International Society of Contemporary Music . From 1999 to 2001 she was a member of the company's executive committee. In 2002 she became a member of the Colegio de Compositores Latinoamericanos de Música de Arte .
