Adolf Friedrich Church
The Adolf Friedrich Church ( Schw . Adolf Fredriks kyrka ) is a church building in the Norrmalm district of the Swedish capital Stockholm . It was built from 1768 to 1774 according to plans by the architect Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz .
history
The laying of the foundation stone was carried out personally by King Adolf Friedrich . In addition to the king, the Duke of Södermanland (later Charles XIII ), Bishop Daniel Herweghr and the court conductor Francesco Uttini were present at the inauguration ceremony on November 28, 1774 .
A wooden chapel dedicated to St. Olav has been located in the square of the church since 1674 and was still in use during the construction period, as the church was initially built around the chapel.
The current church is in the classical style, with details in rococo . It has the plan of an equilateral cross and is crowned by a tower-like structure with windows. Johan Tobias Sergel was responsible for the altar , which depicts the resurrection of Jesus . The interior of the church was redesigned from 1893 to 1895 under the direction of Agi Lidegren . The church largely lost its original appearance, as stucco work and reliefs were added.
organ
The organ of the Adolf-Fridrich-Kirche has 45 registers on three manuals and a pedal . The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
