Christian Hemberg (born December 6, 1981 ) is a former Swedish football player . The offensive player made two international appearances for the Swedish national team in 2001 , but missed the big breakthrough due to his vulnerability to injury and ended his career at the end of 2008.

Career

Hemberg began playing football at Torestorps IF . He made his debut for the amateur club as a youth in the sixth class Division 5 . At the end of the 1997 season he rose with the club to the fifth division, but followed an offer from Örgryte IS and moved to the youth division of the first division. A year later he made his debut for the traditional club in the Allsvenskan and made nine appearances as a substitute. In May 2000, the striker, who was mainly used in the second team, took his chance when he had to replace the injured regular strikers Marcus Allbäck and Johan Elmander in a cup match against Åtvidabergs FF and scored a goal.

As a result, Hemberg was able to fight for a regular place in the first division squad and was appointed to the Swedish national team in January 2001. There he made his debut, who had already been part of the Swedish U21 squad at the age of 18, on January 31, 2001, when he came on for Stefan Ishizaki in the 65th minute of the 0-0 draw against the Faroe Islands . Just one day later, he completed his second and to this day last international match in Swedish Jersey, when he replaced Sharbel Touma in the 0-1 defeat against the Finnish national team in the 77th minute of the game .

In the 2001 season , Hemberg maintained his regular place before a knee injury slowed him down in April of the following year. In the following years he remained prone to injury and after coach Zoran Lukić mainly relied on other players, he left the club after the end of the contract at the end of the 2005 season .

Initially, Hemberg remained without a club, negotiations with the Swiss club AC Bellinzona in the summer of 2006 fell short before the contract was signed. In spring 2007 he found a new employer with the Norwegian club Raufoss IL , with whom he signed a two-year contract. There he came to the side of his compatriots Rickard Claesson , Dennis Jonsson and Magnus Samuelsson mainly as a midfielder for use. At the end of the season, the club ran into financial difficulties and had to be relegated. Thereupon Hemberg left the club and was initially again without a club. In July 2008 he moved to KS / Leiftur in Iceland on the recommendation of the former Örgryte player Tryggvi Guðmundsson . In the Icelandic second division, he should help to keep the league, but the project was missed with only one win of the season. He then returned to Sweden and declared the end of his career.
