Adolf-Friedrich Kuntzen (born July 26, 1889 in Magdeburg , † July 10, 1964 in Abbensen (Edemissen) ) was a German officer , most recently a general of the armored forces in World War II .

Career

On November 1, 1934, Kuntzen was appointed colonel and on March 1, 1938, major general. Since November 10, 1938 he was then commander of the 3rd light division with which he took part in the attack on Poland in September 1939 . On April 1, 1940 he became lieutenant general and took part in the French campaign as commander of the 8th Panzer Division in May 1940 .

In February 1941 he became the commanding general of the LVII. Army Corps (motorized) . Promoted to General of the Panzer Force on April 1, he led his corps in Operation Barbarossa in the Association of Panzer Group 3 from June 1941 against the Soviet Union. In mid-November 1941 he had to give up his command briefly for health reasons, took it over again on January 12, 1942, and finally surrendered it at the end of January 1942. From April 1, 1942 he was Commanding General of the Higher Command z. b. V. XXXII. At the end of May 1942 he became the commanding general of the LXXXI. Army Corps appointed to defend the coast in northern France. During the Allied invasion in June 1944, his corps was 15th Army of Army Group B (Field Marshal Rommel ) subordinated and secured the section between Dunkirk and Ostend. In September 1944 he was transferred to the Führerreserve and finally passed on December 31, 1944.

From July 1955 to 1956, Kuntzen was a member of the personnel appraisal committee for the new Bundeswehr . From October 1957 to September 1958 he was federal chairman of the Association of German Soldiers (VdS).
