history

On September 5, 1927, the district vocational school of the old district of Bergheim was founded as the first district vocational school in Prussia. The aim was to implement the dual system in vocational training, which is still widely used today. The system was described as dual because the company was involved as a place for practical instruction and the school as a place for the theoretical foundation. Until May 1931, the school was housed in the building of what was then the high school for boys in Horremer Heerstraße. The school was subordinate to the district vocational school authority in Bergheim. This office was reorganized by the giant citizen, who was also the headmaster until 1933. Even then, over 1,500 students were trained in around 70 specialist classes.

In 1931 the higher boys' school was dissolved, so that the entire building of the district vocational school was available. In 1937/38 the commercial department moved into the new building in Rathausstrasse, and the commercial department moved into the premises of the former district children's recreation home.

On August 1, 1954, a "vocational school" was set up as part of the increasing eagerness to learn in the 1950s. It was an evening school designed to enable particularly talented and committed young people to acquire new qualifications. Graduates from this school even opted for a university as a further route. This school was run by the Rhenish lignite works and, from October 1, 1959, the Bergheim district.

On November 26th, 1970 the conversion into a technical college for technology and economics took place. The location was the building on Rathausstrasse.

Also in 1970 a higher commercial school was set up in Horrem am Höhenweg. In the course of the further expansion of vocational training, the district council decided on a new vocational school center in Ina-Seidel-Strasse in Horrem. Construction of the school began in 1974 and in 1978 the new school could be moved into under the headmaster Klemens Hecker. For the first time, there was a separation between the technical focal points: While Horrem became the location of industrial technical education, the commercial department migrated and was given a new location in the vocational schools of the Erftkreis for economics and administration in Frechen-Habbelrath.

On July 7, 1981, the teaching staff applied for participation in the college trial based on the newly developed "expansion model". On September 14, 1982, the General Conference was informed of the following resolutions:

  • With the decree of the Minister of Education on February 17, 1982, the vocational school was converted into a college school.
  • By resolution of the district council, the school is named after Adolf Kolping and thus bears the name Adolf Kolping College School of the Erftkreis in Kerpen-Horrem .

In 2012 the Adolf Kolping Vocational College was certified as a European school .
