The Adolf-Scheidt-Platz is a town square in the middle of the settlement town Neu-Tempelhof in Berlin-Tempelhof , near the Tempelhofer Feld and the Paradestraße subway station . The place is a listed garden monument. The name can be traced back to the politician Adolf Scheidt .

history

The Adolf-Scheidt-Platz was laid out from 1924 to 1931 by Fritz Bräuning as an architect and by Rudolf Fischer as a garden architect, so that it was named Adolf-Scheidt-Platz on March 23, 1925. Before it was named after Adolf Scheidt on March 23, 1925, it was called Paradeplatz. The square was laid out in several construction phases, with the eastern part of the square being completed in 1924. In 1931 the round bed in the eastern part of the square was replaced by a stork fountain by Ernst Seger . In 1934 the Adolf-Scheidt-Platz was renamed back to Paradeplatz, but in 1955, after the death of the politician Adolf Scheidt , in 1947, it was renamed back to Adolf-Scheidt-Platz. In 1964, a semicircular edge path and numerous, also shielding plantings of trees, shrubs and conifers in free arrangement were added to the ensemble on the eastern half of the square .

description

Stork fountain made of shell limestone in the eastern part of the square

Adolf-Scheidt-Platz is divided by the Manfred-von-Richtenhofen-Straße crossing it into a semicircular part, east of this street, and a rectangular part, west of it. The eastern part is accentuated by semi-circular locust trees and low hedges on the front garden edges. In the middle of Manfred-von-Richtenhofen-Straße is a single row of parks. There are also two bus stops at the roadside. In the middle of the park row, a sandy path leads axially towards the east to Paradestraße to the stork fountain in the eastern part.

The eastern part of the square is characterized by the stork fountain, which is made of shell limestone , by Ernst Seger as its center. A cubic base with bronze gargoyles rises from the center of the fountain . On this pedestal, four groups of children form a circle around a limestone pillar with a crowning pair of bronze storks in a nest. The groups of children at the base are followed by a bear figure with a child riding and a group of children in front of an apple tree. The fountain design is expressed in a Biedermeier style that reflects the idea of settlement.

The axially running path to Paradestrasse joins the Fritz Bräuning Promenade in the western part of the square. On this side, the sandy path divides two mirror -like lawns framed by hawthorn hedges , each with an oval rose bed in the center. On both the western and eastern sides of the square, a row of acacia that was subsequently added acts as a frame for the residential development outside the square. Further west, rose plantings are repeated on the lawn compartments on both sides of the Fritz-Bräuning Promenade to Boelckestrasse, where the Hugo-Gaudig-Oberschule extends.
