Ernst Seger (born September 19, 1868 in Neurode , Province of Silesia , † August 12, 1939 in Berlin ) was a German sculptor and medalist .

Life

Ernst Seger was born as the third child of the lawyer and notary Albert Seger and his wife Cäcilie, geb. Rust was born in Neurode in the County of Glatz .

From 1884 he attended the sculpture class of the Royal Art and Trade School in Breslau under Robert Härtel and from 1886 worked in Christian Behrens' studio . From the late 1880s he received his first major commissions for monuments. After working in Auguste Rodin's studio in Paris in 1893 and 1894, he ran his own studio in Berlin. In 1895 he created a Kaiser Wilhelm monument for Glatz . Around 1900 he became popular for his Art Nouveau sculptures, especially female nudes.

During the German Empire and later during the Nazi era , Seger was a respected artist. He created a bust of Adolf Hitler in majolica for the State Majolica Manufactory in Karlsruhe . In 1938 he was represented at the Great German Art Exhibition in the Munich House of German Art with three bronze sculptures, including a ring thrower .

The grave of Ernst Seger and his wife Rosina, who died in 1950, is adorned with their own work and is located in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .
