Adolf Chelius
Karl Adolf Wilhelm Chelius (born May 30, 1856 in Frankfurt am Main , † January 28, 1923 in Munich ) was a German painter .
At the age of twenty Chelius went to Berlin in 1876 to study at the art academy there. In the following year he moved to the art academy in Vienna . In 1878 Chelius returned to Germany and settled in his native city.
There he soon became a pupil of the drawing teacher Heinrich Hasselhorst at the Städel Art Institute . Chelius also made the acquaintance of Anton Burger in Kronberg through his teacher . For a short time he also joined the local painters' colony . Soon, however, Chelius went to Munich, but Chelius spent almost the entire time from 1885 to 1895 traveling.
Between Scandinavia and southern Italy and from Spain and Russia, Chelius traveled to almost all parts of Europe. He mainly translated the impressions from these trips into depictions of animals and landscapes.
Adolf Chelius died on January 28, 1923 in Munich at the age of 67.
