Adolf Heinrich Dannemann

Adolf Heinrich Dannemann (born May 17, 1867 in Bremen ; † June 3, 1932 in Heppenheim (Bergstrasse) ) was a German psychiatrist and curative educator .

life and work

Adolf Dannemann came from an old sailor family. After graduating from high school, Dannemann first studied literature and history in Heidelberg and Berlin. Soon he changed the field of study and turned to human medicine. He studied first in Erlangen, then in Kiel, where he passed the state examination in 1891. He then worked briefly as a country doctor, then for three years as a ship's doctor and a few years as an assistant doctor a. a. in the St. Jürgen Hospital for the mentally ill in Bremen. From 1896 to 1913 Dannemann worked as a senior physician at the Psychiatric University Clinic of the University of Giessen . In Gießen he completed his habilitation in 1898 with a thesis on the psychiatric clinic in Gießen. In 1903, Dannemann received a teaching position for forensic psychiatry at the University of Giessen. Four years later he was appointed associate professor. Dannemann was director of the Philippshospital Riedstadt nursing and sanatorium in Goddelau for two years . In 1913 he was appointed director of the Heppenheim sanatorium and nursing home , which he led until his death.

For many years Dannemann was managing director of the Hessian Association for Forensic Medicine and was involved in the aid association for the mentally ill in Hesse .
